Broadcasting online 12 hours a day, and in the Union Global Café weekdays, NSR is the voice of Newcastle University students. With over 200 volunteers NSR provides a valuable media source for students in Newcastle. Mixing cutting edge music of all genres with the latest news and reviews, this is not your ordinary radio station. It is also an essential service which provides student development opportunities for students interested in news and sports, journalism, music and entertainment, marketing and technology. Along with University newspaper ‘The Courier’ NSR hopes to offer an important service to students, providing them with the latest music as well as keeping them up to date with all the news from the University, city and beyond. NSR’s aim is to produce interesting, engaging radio that Newcastle Students can be involved in and relate to. Furthermore, NSR also puts on a range of events and live DJ sets throughout the year, including weekly sets at the Union’s Friday night club event and outdoor live sets during Freshers’ Week, RAG Week and Union Week. This allows students to gain valued experience in DJing at live events; many of the station’s members going on to run club nights and promotion companies of their own.
