Station Founded 1995

Forge Radio (Formerly Sure Radio) was founded back in 1995 as a student society at Sheffield Union by Helen Grimes, with Jenny Thornton as Head of Music. The station followed in the footsteps of Forge FM; a station jointly run by students and the local community broadcasting from University House, which moved out of the students' union to become an independent organisation in 1994. In 2011, now based in Sheffield Union's Media Hub, the station broadcasts around 80 different shows a week and consists of a membership of around 400. Every aspect of the station is student run from jingles to tech lead by an elected committee . Forge Radio plays a major role in the coverage of large union events such as Varsity and Union Officer Election Night and works closely with the student paper The Forge Press and student tv station Forge TV to create the very best content for its audience.
